Presentation by Professor Anita Elberse

HCV members and guests are invited to meet Harvard Business School Professor Anita Elberse, whose exciting research in the world of big business entertainment and sports is the subject of her recent book.

Following drinks and light refreshments, Prof Elberse will give a presentation of some aspects of her research, with additional Q&A and networking time to follow.  HUB Melbourne is generously hosting and sponsoring this event.

Professor Elberse is currently in Australia promoting her new book BLOCKBUSTERS: WHY BIG HITS - AND BIG RISKS - ARE THE FUTURE OF THE ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS. The  book explores what is behind the phenomenal success of entertainment businesses such as Warner Bros, Marvel Entertainment and Real Madrid - along with stars such as Jay-Z Lady Gaga, and Le Bron James. It explains the powerful truth about the fiercely competitive world of entertainment: building a business around blockbuster products — the movies, television shows, songs, and books that are hugely expensive to produce and market — is the surest path to long-term success. Along the way, she reveals why entertainment executives often spend outrageous amounts of money in search of the next blockbuster, why superstars are paid unimaginable sums, and how digital technologies are transforming the entertainment landscape.

Anita Elberse, the Lincoln Filene Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, is one of the youngest female professors to be awarded tenure in the school's history. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Variety, and Fortune.
