Ideas & Reflections From Four Decades

Inside the AFL Bubble

HCV members, Harvard alumni and their guests are invited to a special discussion over lunch of Colin Carter's new book Ideas & Reflections From Four Decades Inside the AFL Bubble. In addition to being a great opportunity to talk footy with Colin, a true legend of the game, guests will receive a copy of Colin's book and be served a light lunch.

In the mid-80s, Colin was tasked with developing a strategy and roadmap to transform the then struggling and unviable VFL into what has become the national juggernaut we know today. Colin's recommendations for the Commission fundamentally changed the way the league would operate, including introducing the national draft, salary cap, reduced list sizes, revenue sharing and ground rationalisation. He also played a pivotal role in the realisation of the MCG's Great Southern Stand.

In addition to spending 15 years as an AFL Commissioner and then a decade as President of the Cats, Colin's thinking has also been instrumental in the coming expansion of the AFL across the Bass Strait. Ideas & Reflections captures Colin's four influential decades at the centre of Aussie Rules, looking both to the past for lessons but also forward to the future of footy.

Numbers are strictly limited, so please book early to avoid missing out. Bookings will close on Monday 12 October unless the event sells out before that date.
